You have to admire a woman for speaking her mind. However, Heather Peace has taken on the most powerful non-political (joke) entity in the world: The Roman Catholic Church.
Peace has blasted the Catholic Church’s stand on gay couples as “embarrassing”.
And the 36-year-old actress and singer says she is “ferocious” that gay people have yet to win equality in partnerships.
Heather, who played lesbian cop Sam Murray in the hit BBC3 drama, is engaged to her partner Ellie.
But she says the last thing she would want is to be married in a church. And she thinks straight people who are not religious should also have the option of civil partnerships.
Heather spoke out as the Scottish Government prepared to publish the results of their consultation on same-sex marriage, which has aroused fierce opposition from religious groups.
She said: “The problem comes with the Catholic Church saying, ‘We’re going to be forced to marry gay people in our church.’ That’s embarrassing.
“I was brought up a Catholic, and in all honesty, on the happiest day of my life, if you really think I would set foot in any building that would rather I wasn’t there, then you’re having a laugh.
“Why would I want to sit with a priest when I don’t even believe any of that?”
She added: “I hate the fact that it’s even referred to as ‘gay’ marriage. I don’t drive a ‘gay’ car or eat a ‘gay’ lunch. It’s just marriage.

i believe ‘straight’ couples do have the options of civil partnerships, but it’s just much lesser known to the more traditional wedding or registry office bash!!
I (like heather) used to go to church and popped in to visit a few weeks back for the first time since the day that my partner moved half way accross england to live with me. i hadn’t gone because i felt so uncomfortable being in there feeling i couldn’t truly be me.
Either way, people need to follow Heather and take a stand!
